I have no problem with Dr. Drew, who I think truly cares and is good at his job,
nor do I mind Celebrity Rehab so much though it seems many "stars" go on it
to make money as much to get clean.
I've been clean and sober for 18 months and it really helped to have support from
friends and family, including those who still use, and to go to meetings and also
a therapist who specializes in addiction. Without any of those parts of the puzzle
I'm not sure I would have made it. Many in the NA and AA community don't
believe in therapists, nor did I have much respect for psychotherapy before this,
but if you find the right one it really helps and makes the process easier IMO.
Fortunately I don't seem to have any mental health issues, other than being a full-time
musician that is <g>.
As for Ms. McCready only time will tell but from what I've seen and been through
the last year and a half she may have a ways to go internally before she can truly
be on the path to success. You can almost see it in an addicts eyes when they
are still not quite there and it seems that way to me from her recent interviews.
I admire any one who at least commits and tries to help themselves and I hope
she get there soon.
