And as has been mentioned here over the years, the world is full of exceptionally talented regional acts, who, for whatever reason, never break outside their home areas. This doesn't just apply to music either. One can have all the talent in the world, but without drive, luck, the right friends, and some marketing savvy, you're not getting out of Peoria. Or maybe you're happy in Peoria. -- terry smith
ps I just spent four days in Tucson. I lived there for a year around 1980, and loved it then. I still love it; for me, one of the most beautiful and magical cities I've ever spent time in. The way it smells after the rain. While there, we caught a local Latin big band -- great Latin/Cuban rhythms -- in the Rialto theater. Good stuff. The highlight, though -- hiking in the Sonoran desert. Coolest desert anywhere, beats the shit out of the Great Basin or that one in California with all the joshua trees.

Maybe there's no mystery. Pop (and country) history is loaded with talented, hard working, deserving acts who never got the success they should have. Sometimes people just never get the right breaks. Meanwhile Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood are still on the radio.

That is a puzzler. When I first saw him with the Nash Ramblers I thought
here's another Emmylou sideman slated for the big time. Sure enough in time
he was releasing an album but just nothing happened. Hard to imagine with
his talent (singing, songwriting, guitar), looks, and heavy friends what's
going on. Any ideas? Lorrie Morgan?
