For music I would add The Bluebird Café, be sure and make your reservations
ahead of time, their webpage explains how to do that.
I would also check the listings for Douglas Corner, 3rd and Lindsey and The
Basement.
For me the two places NOT TO MISS would be The Bluebird and The Station Inn.
I agree on the Opry, if it's at the Ryman.. Check who is at the Ryman, they
have many shows other than the Opry. I believe the "Bluegrass At The Ryman"
shows begin this week (Thursday nights)..
One of the things that people who live here seldom do.. but something I
still enjoy, is to see the inside of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. On their
website they have a "area attractions" link where you might find things of
interest "in and around" Nashville.. I wouldn't be much help on the "around"
part.. I never leave town..
When you get to town pick up a "Nashville Scene" they have good listings on
music, entertainment, food.. etc.. They're online also..
And have breakfast at The Pancake Pantry in Hillsboro Village.. a little
expensive but worth it.. In fact Hillsboro Village (21st Ave S - Hillsboro
Rd) is just a great neighborhood to check out.. bookstore, great guitar
shop, bakery, good eating places, shops..(Browns Diner for a good old all
American greasy cheeseburger) And the girls who take care of the snowcone
machine on the corner by the Shell Station on the weekends are gorgeous..
(I'm sorry, I'm just a dirty old man.)
For art I like the Frist Center For Visual Arts, if you're here on a Friday
they sometimes have interesting music in their courtyard (check the
website).
Haven't spent much time in Austin.. but I remember the music (and country
fried steak) at Broken Spoke and all the music venues on 6th Street.
Here's one place I want to go, if I ever return.
