yeah, he's written a few good songs
but nothing great.  Of course he does pick some great stuff to cover
including songs by his brother and Keith Gattis, Terry Allen, NRBQ,
etc. 

Natalie Maines does sing on at least one of his cds, that wedding song.

i'd have to imagine that a FEW people might have heard of Charlie because of Emily. But if anybody bought a record based on some supposition of similarity of music based on that relationship, they were likely to be terribly disappointed.
