I'm back
after nine days in Ireland. Was surprised to learn that Steve Earle's
"Galway Girl" is a huge hit over there. We heard it almost every night
in the pubs, from solo acts to trad folk duos to rock bands. People
sang along like mad every time.



One of the singers clued me in -- Steve's version with Sharon Shannon
was a hit. Then some guy named Mundy covered it with Shannon last year
-- it was at the top of the charts for five weeks and was the most
downloaded song in the country. It was also used in an ad for
Magner's/Bulmer's cider, check it out below. I just thought it was
interesting that Steve has probably made a lot of money from one of his
more average songs (great melody, dumb lyrics).
