I agree. Good compilation even though I'm not a huge Paul Weller fan.
Washington Phillips is always a treat. Ry Cooder covered his Denomination
Blues on one of Ry's early albums and there was a Yazoo album of all his
recordings. There's been a long standing debate in the blues research world
about what instrument he plays on all his recordings - zither or dulceola.
In any case, he gets a sound that's unique in popular music.

Anyone other than Richard read Mojo regularly? I'm more of an Uncut guy, but
I picked up the June Mojo at the local news agent's yesterday. Slash is on
the cover, but I bought it because of the Paul Weller compilation included.

If you are into Weller music, this comp. is pretty good. (I missed the Jam
and Weller the first time around, and only started listening to the Jam
after discovering Bruce Foxton 12"ers in the mid 80s. Even then, I never
'got' Weller until the turn of the century. Sometimes it takes awhile...)

Anyway, the comp features some really cool music, including tracks with
Weller and most of it stuff I've never heard- Lord Large & Dean Parrish
covering a very early Weller song, World Column, Andy Lewis, Mother Earth,
Declan O'Rourke. Even the stuff I've heard- William Bell, Gil Scott-Heron,
Richie Havens, Small Faces- work nicely in the mix. Washington Phillips is
new to me.

Not all the Mojo compilations are ones I listen to even irregularly. Usually
they go on the shelf after a single listen. I think this one will stick
around.

Also listening to the new Emmylou. Like it so far. Picked up the Bear Family
Jim & Jesse at a used store. So far, so good.

Favourites so far will have to wait...my gosh, there is a stack of stuff.
