What are the security implications to doing this?
How would the stream be protected? ssh?

Windows Remote Desktop can forward the smart card under the
"Local Resources","Local devices and resources"->"more". I don't know
if this is part of the protocol.

There is an Open source version of RDC, rdesktop, but I don't know if it
does smart cards.
