Glad you got it working.

Your explanation of "using malloc n freeing the memory" combined with
your report that when you added in the array on the stack it worked
doesn't make much sense, but it sounds like your code is working to
your satisfaction.

I hope that this code doesn't wind up in a commercial product without
you determining the exact cause of the failure.
